Testing Information

ATA Tigers (3-6 years old)

Group testings will be held every 8 weeks in class.

Testing Eligibility Requirements:

ATA Tiger testers are not scored numerically and cannot receive a "no-change".
Basics, kicks, form, weapon, and fitness challenges are performed with an instructor leading.
Students must attend during testing week to earn their new rank and belt.

Color Belts

Testings will be held the last week of each month with qualifying students.

Testing Eligibility Requirements:

Attend a minimum of 14 classes during the current testing cycle.
Testers must have all of the safety and training equipment needed to demonstrate the required weapon, sparring, and board breaking for their rank.
Testers must attend during the last week of the month. We do not offer make up tests.

Testing / Midterm Requirements

8 out of maximum of 12 points is required to pass and be promoted to your next rank or midterm.
A maximum of 3 points can be earned in each section; forms, weapons, sparring, and board breaking (camoflauge and higher) or self-defense (white-yellow).
Point system: 3 above average, 2 average, 1 below average, 0 if the student does not have the equipment required to perform that section of testing.
Forms: Students will be scored on Attitude-Memory-Focus-Techniq-Balance-Speed-Power-Rhythm-Timing.
Weapons: Students will be scored on Attitude-Memory-Focus-Techniq-Balance-Speed-Power-Rhythm-Timing.
Sparring/Combat Weapons: Students will be scored on Reading Opponent-Defense-Offense-Timing-Speed/Stamina-Set up (fakes).
Board Breaking (camoflauge and higher): 1st attempt - 3 points, 2nd attempt - 2 points, 3rd attempt - 1 point, does not break on 3 attempts - 0 points.
Self-Defense (white-yellow)Attitude-Memory-Focus-Techniq-Balance-Speed-Power-Rhythm-Timing.

Board Requirements

White Board - Ages 5-6
Yellow Board - Ages 7-8
Orange Board - Ages 9-10
Green Board - Ages 11-12
Blue Board - Males ages 13-14, Females 13 and older.
Brown Board - Males 15 and older.

Recommended Black Belts

Requirements:

Complete 1 passing midterms to be eligible to test for 1st Degree Decided Black Belt.
8 out of 12 points is required to pass.
A maximum of 3 points can be earned in each section; forms, weapons, sparring, and board breaking.
Point system: 3 above average, 2 average, 1 below average.
Perform Complete Choon Jung 2 Form: Students will be scored on Black Belt Attitude-Memory-Focus-Techniq-Balance-Speed-Power-Rhythm-Timing.
Perform Complete Kama weapons form: Students will be scored on: Black Belt Attitude-Memory-Focus-Techniq-Balance-Speed-Power-Rhythm-Timing.
Perform Sparring/Combat Weapons: Students will be scored on: Reading Opponent-Defense-Offense-Timing-Speed/Stamina-Set up (fakes).
Board Breaking: 1st attempt - 3 points, 2nd attempt - 2 points, 3rd attempt - 1 point, does not break on 3 attempts - 0 points.
1st Degree Black Belt Rank Testings are held twice a year in June and November.
ATA National Rank Testing Fee is required for 1st Degree Decided Black Belt Testing.

1st Degree Black Belts

Requirements:

Complete 2 passing midterms to be eligible to test for 2nd Degree Recommended Black Belt.
Minimum Time in Rank 2 years.
Once promoted to 2nd Degree Recommended Black Belt students are eligible to test for 2nd Degree Decided black belt at the next black belt testing.
8 out of 12 points is required to pass midterms and rank testings.
A maximum of 3 points can be earned in each section; forms, weapons, sparring, and board breaking.
Point system: 3 above average, 2 average, 1 below average.
Midterm 1: Perform half of Shim Jun Form demonstrating:  Black Belt Attitude-Memory-Focus-Techniq-Balance-Speed-Power-Rhythm-Timing.
Midterm 2 , 2BR, 2BD Testings: Perform Complete Shim Jun Form. Students will be scored on: Black Belt Attitude-Memory-Focus-Techniq-Balance-Speed-Power-Rhythm-Timing.
All Midterms and Testings: Perform current cycle's weapons form. Students will be scored on Black Belt Attitude-Memory-Focus-Techniq-Balance-Speed-Power-Rhythm-Timing.
All Midterms and Testings: Perform Sparring/Combat Weapons: Students will be scored on Reading Opponent-Defense-Offense-Timing-Speed/Stamina-Set up (fakes).
All Midterms and Testings: Board Breaking: 1st attempt - 3 points, 2nd attempt - 2 points, 3rd attempt - 1 point, does not break on 3 attempts - 0 points.

2nd Degree Black Belts

Complete 5 passing midterms to be eligible to test for 3rd Degree Recommended Black Belt.
Minimum Time in Rank 3 years.

A maximum of 3 points can be earned in each section; forms, weapons, sparring, and board breaking.
Point system: 3 above average, 2 average, 1 below average.
Midterm 1: Perform half of Jung Yul Form. Students will be scored on Black Belt Attitude-Memory-Focus-Techniq-Balance-Speed-Power-Rhythm-Timing.
Midterms 2-5 and Rank Testing: Perform Complete Jung Yul Form. Students will be scored on: Black Belt Attitude-Memory-Focus-Techniq-Balance-Speed-Power-Rhythm-Timing.
All Midterms and Rank Testing: Perform current cycle's weapons form. Students will be scored on Black Belt Attitude-Memory-Focus-Techniq-Balance-Speed-Power-Rhythm-Timing.

3rd Degree Black Belts

Requirements:

Complete 7 passing midterms to be eligible to test for 4th Degree Recommended Black Belt.
Minimum Time in Rank 4 years.
ATA National Pre-Approval is required 60 days prior to testing date.
ATA National participation required (seminars, tournament judging, etc.)
8 out of 12 points is required to pass midterms and rank testings.
A maximum of 3 points can be earned in each section; forms, weapons, sparring, and board breaking.
Point system: 3 above average, 2 average, 1 below average.
Midterm 1: Perform half of Chung San Form. Students will be scored on Black Belt Attitude-Memory-Focus-Techniq-Balance-Speed-Power-Rhythm-Timing.
Midterms 2-7 and Rank Testing: Perform Complete Chung San Form. Students will be scored on: Black Belt Attitude-Memory-Focus-Techniq-Balance-Speed-Power-Rhythm-Timing.
All Midterms and Rank Testing: Perform current cycle's weapons form. Students will be scored on: Black Belt Attitude-Memory-Focus-Techniq-Balance-Speed-Power-Rhythm-Timing.
